A collection of BBC adaptations featuring Arthur Conan Doyle's celebrated super-sleuth.

A Study In Scarlet: Peter Cushing stars as the intrepid private eye Sherlock Holmes, and has to perform a little forensic investigation.

The Boscombe Valley Mystery: Peter Cushing stars as Sherlock Holmes in another unfathomable mystery story, with Nigel Stock as his faithful sidekick.

The Hound Of The Baskervilles: Classic two-part story starring Peter Cushing and Nigel Stock as the inquisitive pair, dealing first-hand with an horrific bestial menace.

The Sign of Four: One of the most exotic tales in the Sherlock Holmes collection, this story features lost treasure, a murderous pigmy, a beautiful, wronged woman with whom Watson falls in love, a mad and mysterious pair of twins and a thrilling, deadly chase along the Thames. These elements have made the mystery a real favourite amongst Holmes aficionados and this episode stands as a faithful but fast-paced adaptation of a much-loved novel.

The Blue Carbuncle: This represents one of the series' most engaging and unashamedly enjoyable stories concerning a mystery memorably described by Holmes as 'one of those whimsical little incidents which will happen when you have 4 million human beings all jostling each other within the space of a few square miles'. Although Holmes holds the key to an innocent man's liberty, the story brims with humourous touches and sees Watson and his friend in fine festive form, joking and laughing their way through a wild goose chase, encountering comic characters and Dickensian crooks.

The Hound of the Baskervilles (2002): The ancient legend of the Baskervilles has persisted in the family history for generations. It is Sir Charles's mysterious death in the grounds of Baskerville Hall that brings Holmes and Watson to the scene of one of their most famous and intriguing cases – the mystery of the legendary hellhound of Dartmoor.

This new adaptation of 'Hound of the Baskervilles' portrays Holmes and Watson as young and athletic men in their mid-thirties, much closer to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's original vision, in contrast to the mature and paternalistic figures of previous versions of the story.

The Case of the Silk Stocking: November 1902. Fog and shadows engulf the city. The murky world of the menacing London docks collide with the glamour and glitter of Edwardian high society as sleuth Sherlock Holmes and Dr John H Watson are reunited to solve a case which threatens to overwhelm the privilege and tranquillity of aristocratic society. When the murder of a penniless shop-girl is linked to the body of debutante Lady Alice Burnham, Holmes immediately begins to piece together the clues: a pair of dancing shoes, a rogue fingerprint, a strong smell of chloroform, a broken glass. The duo must use everything at their disposal to prevent another death: a perilous public disguise, a high risk trap, a clandestine exhumation. Notwithstanding the absurd reticence of the nobility and the blunderings of the police, Holmes inches closer to his extraordinary conclusions. But he has not calculated for the complex and dark passions of his adversary…

The Strange Case of Sherlock Holmes and Arthur Conan Doyle: A semi-autobiographical drama based on Arthur Conan Doyle came to conceive the idea of the super-sleuth and its personification in Sherlock Holmes.
