On Shakespeare's birthday, the BBC and the Royal Shakespeare Company come together in an extravaganza, celebrating Shakespeare's words and his enduring influence on all performance art forms – from Berlioz and Bernstein, to hip-hop and jazz, from ballet to Broadway to blues and back. (If you don’t like this sentence you could say….from opera to jazz, dance to musicals). This unique event, from the stage of the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon, will take place in the presence of Their Royal Highnesses The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall, and is hosted by David Tennant and Catherine Tate.

Gregory Doran, the Artistic Director of the Royal Shakespeare Company has assembled a once-in-a-lifetime cast, including Judi Dench, Benedict Cumberbatch, Ian McKellen, Helen Mirren, Gregory Porter, Joseph Fiennes, Akala, English National Opera, The Royal Ballet, Meera Syal, Sanjeev Bhaskar, Rufus Wainwright, Ian Bostridge and Antonio Pappano, Birmingham Royal Ballet, Rory Kinnear, Rufus Hound, Henry Goodman, The Shires, David Suchet, Simon Russell Beale, Roger Allam, Antony Sher, Harriet Walter, John Lithgow, Alexandra Gilbreath, Tim Minchin, Anne-Marie Duff, Pippa Nixon, Alison Moyet, Orchestra of the Swan, the cast of Horrible Histories and Midlands Youth Jazz Orchestra.

Shakespeare Live! From The RSC is produced for television by John Wyver, Director, RSC Screen Productions, and BBC producer Catherine Stirk, in partnership with the Open University. Shakespeare Live! From The RSC has been commissioned by Jan Younghusband for the BBC and the executive producer will be Phil Dolling, Head of Events. Part of the BBC’s partnership with the RSC.
